ANA Avro 618 Ten VH-UMI Southern Moon

Australian National Airways' Avro 618 Ten VH-UMI Southern Moon (c/n 231) in front of ANA's hangar, at Sydney/Mascot in the early 1930s. This aircraft was imported by ANA for use on their interstate services and was registered on 8 February 1930, CoR 359. It was withdrawn from use following the collapse of ANA and struck off the Register on 28 February 1933.

Click here to see examples of air mails flown on the first ANA Sydney-Melbourne service in 1930 and the 1931 special Christmas mail.

C. T. P. Ulm, one of the principals of ANA, purchased the aircraft from the liquidators and it was rebuilt in highly modified form to be re-registered on 16 June 1933 as VH-UXX Faith in Australia.

In the background is an aircraft wearing the marks VH-UGB. These marks were allocated to a Curtiss JN-4D 'Jenny' - although the aircraft in the photo does not appear to be one.
