| | |
|
During 1998 a replacement Fire Station and Control Tower were constructed within a new civil area to the north of the runway. The Fire Station was commissioned in 1999 and the RAAF-operated Control Tower in May 2000. As of 2006, the Unit operating the Tower is Number 44 Wing - Detachment Darwin. The aircraft is a Republic of Singapore Air Force F16D Block 52+ Fighting Falcon getting airborne with a full load of tanks and targeting pods, one of the many foreign combat aircraft to visit Darwin for exercises.
