Karumba Flying Boat Base - 1942

A diagram of the Karumba, Qld, Flying Boat Base in 1942 from the RAAF directory Flying Boat Bases and Alighting Areas, June 1943.

The base area was on the bank opposite the moorings, with the jetty sticking out into the Nroman River. The aerial masts in the base area were for the HF receivers and the 150 ft wireless aerials about 1,000 yards inland were for the HF transmitters.

Left: A locality diagram from the same source showing the location of Karumba at the mouth of the Norman River on the Gulf of Carpentaria.

Normanton, the major settlement in the area, was about 25 miles further inland.
