Airways Museum Open Day 2015
Open Day

The 1934 England-Australia Centenary Air Race
is the theme of a new photographic exhibition to be unveiled at the 2014 Open Day at the Airways Museum on Saturday 7 November 2015. The exhibition will be on display for one year.

The 1934 England-Australia Centenary Air Race (also known as the MacRobertson Air Race) was conceived as part of the celebrations for the centenary of the establishment of the settlement that would become Melbourne, Australia. At a time when there was still no international air service linking Australia with the rest of the world, this was a major event.

A new exhibition at the Airways Museum tells the story of the race and our Open Day guest speakers will help set the race into context. The exhibition features never-before-published original race documents from the late Herb Knight collection as well as items of mail actually flown in the race by various competitors.
