This photo shows the Control Tower at Port Moresby's Jacksons Airport, Papua, in what is thought to be the early 1970s. Jackson's had recently taken over from Lae, New Guinea, as the main airport for the Australian mandated territories of Papua and New Guinea.

The Flight Service Centre was located on one of the lower floors of this building.

In 1971 the Tower operated for 14 hours per day and the Flight Service Unit for 21 hours per day.

The photo below was probably taken around the same time. Note the Australian flag and the Civil Air Ensign are still flying, indicating this is a pre-independence photo.
