Darwin Control Tower - 1959 | |
| | |
|
This Tower, photographed here in the 1970s, was badly damaged by Cyclone Tracy which hit Darwin on Christmas Eve, 1974. During 1998 a replacement Fire Station and Control Tower were constructed within a new civil area to the north of the runway. The Fire Station was commissioned in 1999 and the Control Tower (still RAAF-operated) in 2000. This Tower (Darwin's 3rd) was demolished shortly after to make way for aircraft shelters.
