This view inside the Mackay, Qld., Control Tower in November 1968 presents a workplace showing its age.

The console design is of typical 1950s style - note the PNS microphones (click here for more on these). The two smaller dials in the centre of the console fascia are anemometer readouts of wind speed and direction, whilst the large dial shows the current altimeter setting, or QNH.
